A California district judge, Judge Ann L. Jones, ruled against selling pollution credits which stalls construction of 11 new power plants. The power plants, relying on government subsidies, would have been built in industrial areas already exceeding their carbon emission limit based on the California Environmental Quality Act.

In parts of rural Louisiana millionares are being made over night as natural gas deposits are discovered and energy companies are paying up to $30,000 an acre for rights to the land. This natural gas deposit, covering areas from Texas to Louisiana to Arkansas, might be the largest natural gas deposit in the continental United States.

Prices for gasoline fell for the 8th straight day, bringing prices down to a level not seen since early June. Drivers in Oklahome, Missouri, and Minnesota paid the cheapest prices at the pumps.
