Commentary. A major venture capitalist in biofuels and co-founder of Sun Microsystems, Vinad Khosla, was quoted in a San Fransisco Chronicle interview as saying the relation between ethanol and the food crisis has been blown out of proportion. The Wall Street Journal allegedly took the comment out of context in an editorial last week. According to Forbes and President Bush in a news conference last week, ethanol is only responsible for 15% of the food crisis. Rising fuel costs and altered weather account for the other 85%.
